Unity Baptist Church was established on March 8, 1992 when the Solid Rock Baptist Church and the Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Walter Evans United.  In 1994 Reverend Anthony Simmons was called as interim pastor.  In 1996 Reverend Simmons was ordained and called as pastor.

Under the leadership of Reverend Simmons, the church grew spirituality and the Brotherhood and Sisterhood departments were established and a daycare was purchased.  Reverend Simmons was servicing in the United States Air Force and was assigned to another location.  He resigned in 1997.  In 1998 Unity called Reverend Harold Fields as their third Pastor.  Under the Leadership of Pastor Fields, the Christian Education Department were started, A FAITH evangelist team, Media Department and community outreach programs with the Rescue and Rescue Haven and the Rose Park Community Associations were implemented. The outside and in the inside structures of the church were modified and a new roof was put on the church, new pews added, kitchen cabinets remodeled, and the heating and air conditioning repaired.  Unity has hosted missions’ team and participated in the SLC 1992 Winter Olympics as a outreach ministry for the South Baptist Association.  Unity Baptist Church united with the Intermountain General Baptist Convention in 1998 where the church and Pastor Fields are active members.

Reverend Harold O. Fields has been the pastor of  the Unity Baptist Church for 21 years. He is a graduate of The Philadelphia College of the Bible, Philadelphia PA. He was licensed in 1978 and ordained in 1981 at the Millennium Baptist Church, Philadelphia PA.    Reverend Fields has served 2 four years terms as President of the IGBC, INC and numerous positions in the conventions such as President of Congress of Christian Education and third Vice President.  Reverend Fields has been active in the National Baptist Convention USA as staff in the Registers department and as teacher.  Reverend Fields has also held the position of past Moderator of the Salt Lake Association of the Utah Idaho Southern Baptist Convention.   He has served as pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, Rock Springs, Wyoming and The Little Branch of Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia PA. Reverend Fields is retired from Salt Lake City Corporation as a Parking Enforcement Officer where he was active member of Local Union 104, member of the Community Action Team and the Mayors Board of Ethics and Religious Divide, and the Black Advisory Board.  He is married to Sister Barbara Fields and they have a son Rev. Ozsie R, and a daughter Barbara Fields and are blessed with 4 older children and 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Pastor Fields was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and raised in Christian home to Deacon Ozsie and Deaconess Ruth Fields, and united with First Corinthian Baptist Church at an early age.
