Mission statement

The Woman’s Auxiliary (WA) serves as a supplementary group within the Intermountain General Baptist Convention (IGBC) and is directed by the IGBC President.  The WA is dedicated to the advancement of the kingdom of God at home and abroad through righteous living, and educating others in the knowledge of the Word of God.

Purpose

The purpose of the IGBC Woman’s Auxiliary is to:

  1. Develop goals and outcomes that are congruent with those of the parent body.

  2. Provide a forum for discussion, debate, action, and decision making regarding matters and issues affecting women of the IGBC, as well as, women in the community and women at the local, state, national and international level.


Our 2017- 2019 Theme: Theme: Spiritually Growing, Faithfully Serving

 Focus Scripture: I Corinthians 4: 1-2
This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. I Cor 4: 1,2


Our Goals

  1. Worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth.

  2. Be servant leaders in our communities.

  3. Strengthen the love among the sisterhood.

  4. Equip, Enable and Empower Women to Go Out and Bring the Outs In.


 Our Objectives

  1. Offer workshops, seminars, etc. for spiritual growth.

  2. Conduct 4 general membership meetings and host 3 social gatherings.

  3. Conduct 3 service projects: Spare Change,  Hats and Gloves, Sonshine Bag.

  4. Grow numerically.

  5. Support the IGBC convention.


 Continuing Traditions:

  • Each Women’s Auxiliary Group will select their own colors or identifying mark and will wear it at IGBC Women’s Ministry events.

  • The Women in White program moves from north to south Utah in alternating year.  2018 is a north year.

  • An overnight retreat will be considered.

  • $25.00 IGBC Assessment (benefits of membership: quarterly newsletter, supporting the convention)

  • Spare –Change –Can-Make-A-Difference – raise money to support the National Baptist Ministers Wives and Past President’s effort to build a wing of a hospital in Malawi.


 
 

Dr. Brenda Joyce Burrell

Brenda Burrell was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. Because her father in the Air Force, Brenda has traveled the world. She professed Christ at the age of 8, was baptized at age 16 and has been running for the Lord ever since.  She loves to study and teach God’s Word.   She is active in the Women’s Ministry, Mission, and  Sunday School at Second Baptist Church, Ogden, UT. She is President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Intermountain General Baptist Convention, Inc. 

Raised to value education, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor degree in Education, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy. Dr. Burrell has had a long and distinguished career in education.  She has been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and State Director. She is a published author and professional staff developer.  She received her Diploma in Christian Education from the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.  

She is married to Elliott Burrell.  Together they have 5 children, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Her favorite scripture is Philippians 4: 11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
